What is Ayurveda?
Derived from the Sanskrit words ayur (life) and veda (science or knowledge), Ayurveda is, in its essence, a science of life.
More than just a system of treating illness, Ayurveda is a body of wisdom steeped in more than 5,000 years of tradition and designed to help people maintain their vitality and realize their full potential as human beings. Perhaps the most fundamental tenet of Ayurveda is the notion that true health is a dynamic balance between our body, mind, and spirit.
What part does Ayurveda play at Nectar?
According to Ayurveda, there are three basic energies that govern our inner and outer environments: movement, transformation, and structure, or in Sanskrit, Vata (wind), Pitta (fire), and Kapha (earth).
Everyone has a unique proportion of these three elements which shapes our nature as individuals, but most of us tend to have one or two that predominate in our self-expression and realization.
In order to achieve a balance between mind, body, spirit, and environment, Ayurveda requires that we identify our particular mind-body types or constitutions, also known as our doshas, our unique blends of the three life forces that shape our experience and expression of life.
Because we share the Ayurvedic belief that true health is a state of balance between mind, body, and spirit, our juices and our cleanses are designed to help each particular dosha type achieve its ideal balance and, in the long run, sustainable nourishment and wellbeing.
How do I determine my dosha?
As the Chopra Center affirms, a simple questionnaire can help you determine which Ayurvedic element is most lively in your nature.
While there are a number of different questionnaires out there, below is the one we use here at Nectar to help determine which juice cleanse would be best for you.
Which Nectar cleanse is ideal for my particular dosha?
In general, if the dominant energy in your dosha is Vata, the ideal cleanse for you would be our Nourish cleanse.
If the dominant energy in your dosha is Pitta, we would recommend you try our Alkalize cleanse.
And lastly, if the dominant energy in your dosha is Kapha, the ideal cleanse for you would be our Energize cleanse.
I've determined my dosha and which Nectar cleanse would be ideal for me; what's next?
The next step is to determine how long your cleanse should last: we offer one-day, three-day, and five-day cleanses.
While a one-day cleanse would be a great reset for your body, we recommend a minimum of a three-day cleanse, in order to achieve the maximum benefits.
How does a cleanse work?
The most important thing you need to know about a juice cleanse is that, contrary to popular belief, it's not the juice that cleanses you, but your body that carries out its natural self-cleansing process.
By drinking juice, nutrients are absorbed into the bloodstream within 90 seconds, and without activating digestion. This gives your digestive system the time to fully cleanse itself.
