How did you journey with Nectar begin?

My journey with Nectar began with me as a customer about one and a half years ago. I was in a very different stage in my life. I was on bed rest, barely able to get out of bed, and when I did begin walking again, it was for very short periods of time with the assistance of a walker. I was taking 30+ medications per day, and my boyfriend would have to come home and administer them for me.

I really hit a point where I became fed up.  I was done with doctors telling me that this was about as good as it was going to get, and I was done with the pharmaceutical drugs.

So I began researching plant-based diets, plant-based supplements; and found a pathway to adaptogens.

Sun potion was the business that really stood out to me, and when looking at where to get their products in Canada, I came across Nectar.

When I visited the Gastown location I had such an amazing experience meeting Tori and having her give me clarity on how to listen to what my body was asking for. I felt like I was home, and I knew this was a woman and a philosophy I wanted to stand behind and work for.

What is your quest?

I would have to say sharing with the world how to incorporate plant-based remedies into their lives and teaching people how to communicate with their bodies. Tori always says “Dis-ease is your body trying to communicate.” I want to teach people how to further that knowledge and provide them with opportunities to develop that relationship with their physical selves.

What has been the biggest driving force in what you do?

It started with the way that my life began to turn around as I adjusted my way of thinking, and self care practices. However seeing the familiar faces come into Main St. (and previously Gastown), and helping people find their path is the best part of all of this. I would say this is what developed my quest.

How would your friends describe you?

Motivated and always thinking of solutions to everything. I’m definitely the planner. I’m also curious about everything. I find interest in every walk of life, and like to learn people’s perspectives and what drives them.

What makes you laugh?

Probably most consistently dad jokes... but don’t let my dad know that.

What gives you courage?

Knowing that I am responsible for my own life. Knowing that things that happen are sometimes just a part of life, and that as a being, I can overcome and adjust to anything. Also knowing I have such an amazing support group behind me with my friends, family, and coworkers.

What is one rule you live by?

Trust your gut. Both physically and emotionally.

Do you have a favourite Nectar product?

Can I have two? Ashwagandha is definitely one of them. It’s the first thing I purchased at Nectar. Everyday Oil is the other. I heat a little bit of it up in the evenings and use it after my shower. We Kaphas run cold!

Describe your morning ritual.

I long brew a chaga/reishi tea in my slow cooker, and add to it throughout the week. So I have a cup of that in the morning, and add in any other adaptogens I’m feeling for the AM, then I blend it with some Almond Milk and Blackstrap Molasses. I set my intentions for the day, plan out my schedule in my planner, (you’ll never see me without it) while burning some palo santo and sitting with a few of my favourite crystals. I wash my face in the morning with Everyday Oil, and begin my day.

In respect to wellness, if you could offer one piece of advice to all; what would it be?

Feeling great and finding true wellness is never immediate or constant. It is a daily commitment and a conversation only you can have with your body. Give yourself the forgiveness and kindness to know that even doing one thing for you is still walking you towards your goal.

Dear Chelsea,

What an inspiring young lady you are! I’m not sure if you remember me, as you were quite little when I lived in Abbotsford. I’m good friends with your Mom and Dad. Anyhow, I’m so very happy for you and it’s wonderful to hear that you are feeling good! What a journey you had. Your story inspired me very much.

All the best!!!
